Here's the latest in SF food news. In this all-FiDi edition: a healthy superfood-inspired eatery debuts next to a new fried chicken spot, and a poke place closes after just three months of business.

Local Cafe (33 Kearny St.)

Tipster Al M. alerted us that Local Cafe has opened at 33 Kearny St., between Geary and Post streets. The breakfast and lunch-focused eatery is centered on healthy "superfoods," with breakfast items like acai energy bowls, oatmeal topped with fresh fruit, and smoked salmon or avocado toast.

At lunch, diners can opt for build-your-own chirashi bowls, with a choice of base (white rice, brown rice or mixed greens), protein (tuna, salmon or vegan) and sauce (light citrus ginger, wasabi cream or spicy cream).

For drinks, there's a selection of fresh smoothies, coffee, tea and kombucha.

Local Cafe is currently open from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. on weekdays. Follow its Instagram page for updates on hours and offerings.

Flybird (35 Kearny St.)

Right next door to Local Cafe is another newcomer: Flybird, specializing in fried chicken sandwiches and salads. The eatery comes from Guy Eshel, who also owns nearby Middle Eastern spot Sababa, and his business partner Jay Roberts.

All the menu options are available with Mary's fried chicken cutlets, or sweet potatoes, for vegetarians. The "classic" sandwich comes with cabbage and carrot slaw, ranch dressing and bread-and-butter pickles, while the Korean-inspired "Seoul Food" has gochujang sauce, pickled daikon and sesame mayo.

Salads are available with or without chicken. The "Greek Isles" salad has tomatoes, red onion, crispy eggplant, olives, feta and a creamy dressing, while the "New Delhi" boasts rainbow carrots, crispy lentils, cauliflower, paneer and curry vinaigrette.

On the side, diners can get fries or a chocolate chip cookie. To drink, there's soda, lemonade, iced tea and kombucha.

Like Local Cafe, Flybird is open weekdays from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

In addition to the recent FiDi openings, Al M. also informed us of the closure of Nice Catch Poke, which opened only a few months ago — in May 2019.

The now-shuttered space has a "for lease" sign posted on its exterior.  We've reached out to its owner for information about the closure, and will provide updates if and when we hear back.

Thank you to Al M. for the tips If you've seen something new (or closing) in the neighborhood, text your tips and photos to (415) 200-3233, or email [email protected]. If we use your info in a story, we'll give you credit.
