Here's the latest in SF food news. In this edition, a German bakery is set to debut in NoPa, a Union Square steakhouse plots its reopening after a move, and a Mission microbrewery goes all-out for Taco Tuesdays.

SF is about to get a taste of German baked goods, as Hahdough plots a March 1 debut at 1221 Fell Street (between Divisadero and Broderick streets).

Owner and baker Ha Do, whom we interviewed in 2017, was born in Vietnam but grew up in Germany. She moved to San Francisco over a decade ago, and has gained a loyal following for the classic German tortes, pastries and cupcakes she sells at local farmers markets.

Her 600-square-foot konditorei (German for patisserie or confectionery shop) will offer pastries and cake by the slice, as well as espresso drinks made with beans from Linea Caffe. Given the limited space, goods will be baked off-site in a commercial kitchen.

With her close proximity to the DMV, Do said she hopes people will drop by for a coffee or jam-filled doughnut before they head over to wait in line, or grab a morning treat while riding their bikes along the Wiggle.

The new location is just the beginning for Hahdough: later this year, Do will also open a production facility in Hayes Valley (509 Laguna St.) which will include a walk-up bakery window with limited hours.

Tad's Steakhouse (38 Ellis St.)

In October, Tad's Steakhouse dished up its last ribeye at 120 Powell St., where it had operated for 65 years and served more than three million steaks.

Luckily, the family-run eatery was able to find a new location right around the corner, at 38 Ellis St., where it will reopen in the next few weeks. It had originally planned to reopen in November, but a representative said that undisclosed delays slowed things down a bit.

The new Tad's will offer a full bar and all-day breakfast, neither of which were available at the original location.

A sneak-peek photo on its Facebook page (above) reveals a more modern look with several TVs, as well as new kitchen appliances. We'll keep you posted on the official opening date.

Mission

Lupulandia (2243 Mission St.)

Mission-based, Tijuana-inspired restaurant and brewery Lupulandia is going full-bore on Taco Tuesdays, exclusively serving tacos on Tuesday nights from 5 – 10 p.m.

The weekly taco bacchanal will feature all the tacos on Lupulandia's regular menu, plus the quesabirria tacos from its brunch menu, at the price of three tacos for $12. Cocktails and house-brewed beer will be on offer to pair with the tacos.

The taco menu also has two new additions: the "Jack in the Bell" gringo taco (seasoned ground beef, shredded lettuce/cheeses and homemade hot sauce in a fried corn tortilla) and a Tijuana-style camarón enchilado taco, made with shrimp, chiles, cheese and garlic butter.
