Tomorrow, March 7, will be the last day of business for the Inner Sunset's Social Kitchen & Brewery (1326 9th Ave.) Tipster Brian S. alerted us to the closure.
Known for brewing local craft beer on-site, the bar and restaurant is closing due to an inability to agree on a new lease with its landlord, says head brewer Sean Halpin. The decision was made just last night.
“We’re going to just have a big party," said Halpin. “We want to show appreciation to the neighborhood and everyone who supported us over the years, and just make it a positive thing.”
Social Kitchen is known for its wide range of beer styles: English-, Belgian- and California-inspired ales, American- and German-style lagers, and experimental beers. Its Mr. Kite's Pale Ale won two gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival, considered to be the most prestigious competition for craft breweries, in 2015 and 2017.
Most notably, it was the birthplace of the brut IPA, an entirely new beer style invented by former brewer Kim Sturdavant.
It also serves a menu of comfort food like fried pickles with chipotle aioli, “social wings,” loaded nachos and truffle mac and cheese, as well as salads and sandwiches.
In a post on Facebook, the brewery thanks "everyone who's been rocking with us for the past decade,” promising a "full-blown rager" tomorrow for the business' final day. $3 beers will be offered until midnight.
“Come snag the best suds around one last time!" the post concludes.
