The Bay Area's shelter-in-place order has brought countless events usually held as in-person gatherings online. We're aiming to support local businesses in San Francisco and Oakland by highlighting five of these events each day.

Here's your SF event calendar for Friday, April 24. Learn how to create your own Frida Kahlo-inspired portrait, join a karaoke night or listen to a Harry Potter reading series — all from the comfort of your couch.

Get Friday morning started with Frida Kahlo and a family-friendly art-making session with the de Young museum on Instagram Live. This week's activity is a lesson in creating your own portrait, inspired by Frida Kahlo, and hosted by senior teaching artist Raphael Noz.

Zero Waste Training

Hear from zero waste expert Freddy Coronado from the San Francisco Department of the Environment during a live, virtual zero waste training. Are yogurt containers recyclable? What about bubble wrap? Where does our compost go? What can we do to alleviate the amount of single-use disposables? These questions and more will be answered.

This training will cover San Francisco's climate action goals, its new zero-waste commitments, and an overview of what's recyclable, what's compostable, and what's trash in the city.

Community Karaoke Online

While folks aren’t able to meet in person for community karaoke nights, that doesn't mean they can't happen online. Keep your spirits up and join for a fun night of online karaoke with the community via Zoom while sheltering in place.

Songs can be requested in either English or Japanese, as long as a karaoke version of the song can be found on YouTube.

Six Feet Apart: Harry Potter Story Time

Wind down for the day and join the Bayview Opera House for the Harry Potter reading series as a part of the Six Feet Apart project, made possible by the San Francisco Arts Commission and Grants for the Arts. Get lost in the magic of Harry Potter every Friday evening with a watch party featuring local performers and musicians, bringing new life to the Harry Potter series chapter by chapter.

OASIS TV: Friends LIVE

Finally, tune in to Oasis TV to enjoy a production of Friends LIVE from last year. Come down to Central Perk, have a coffee and hang out with Rachel, Joey, Monica, Ross and Rachel, as played by an all-star cast of San Francisco drag performers
