The Bay Area's shelter-in-place order has brought countless events usually held as in-person gatherings online. We're aiming to support local businesses in San Francisco and Oakland by highlighting five of these events each day.

Join the Museum of the African Diaspora for an online conversation between internationally acclaimed Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama and best-selling Nigerian novelist Sarah Ladipo Manyika. They'll discuss Mahama’s 2016 installation inspired by Manyika’s debut novel "In Dependence," which is comprised of hundreds of shoemakers' boxes.

Louise Chu: Hadrian's Wall

Stuck at home with wanderlust? Join the Legion of Honor Museum for one of its "travelogue" talks, with a rotating cast of curators discussing their pre-pandemic journeys to view art around the globe. In this edition, Louise Chu will discuss and show photos of her 2018 trip to Hadrian's Wall, a stone and turf fortification in Northern England. Built by the Roman Empire to stop attacks by Scottish tribes, it spans 91 miles, which Chu explored on a 10-day walking tour.

Halcyon Workout Club

Local nightclub Halcyon is hosting a biweekly "workout club" every Tuesday and Thursday during the shelter-in-place, with trainer Precious Star Moreno leading a sweat session as a rotating local DJ spins. Each edition is live-streamed from the (otherwise empty) club, for maximum light and sound impact. Tonight's edition features music from BAKR, while Thursday's will spotlight Dominic M.

Terry Beswick: The Need For an LGBT History Museum

While the GLBT Historical Society has a small museum in the Castro, plans for opening a much larger, more comprehensive space dedicated to San Francisco's rich LGBTQ+ history have taken decades to develop. In this talk hosted by Mission community space Manny's, the society's executive director, Terry Beswick, will discuss the obstacles to opening a museum, and how the public can help.

Virtual Elixir Quiz

Miss bar trivia? While you'll have to provide your own drinks, you can still enjoy Elixir's quiz night from the comfort of your own home. Hosts Ed and Nick will host six rounds of 10 questions on Facebook Live. Support the bar by ordering drinks in advance — Elixir will deliver bottles, cocktail kits, beer and wine straight to your door.
