6 lovable pups to adopt now in IndianapolisPhotos: Petfinder

Interested in adopting a pet — or just looking at some lovable pups up for adoption? There are dozens of endearing dogs up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Indianapolis.

Animal shelters and pet rescue groups work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of dogs currently available for adoption.

(Details like pet availability, training, vaccinations and other features are based on data provided by Petfinder and may be subject to change; contact the shelter for the latest information.)

Rose, Labrador retriever

Rose is a sweet female Labrador retriever dog currently residing at Love of Labs.

Rose gets along well with other dogs. No need to worry: She is already house-trained. Rose has been vaccinated and spayed.

More about Rose:

Rose is a 2.5 year old black lab/shepherd mix who weighs about 52 pounds. She is a super-friendly gal who loves people, and she does give lots of kisses. Rose is playful and has a lot of energy, so it would be best if she has a fenced-in yard at her new home. Do you like to take walks? Rose does too! She particularly loves to stop and meet dogs along the way. Since she likes to get along with other dogs on walks, she might also enjoy having a furry brother or two.

Rosie, Great Pyrenees

Rosie is a female Great Pyrenees dog currently residing at Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue.

Rosie is the life of the party, and she'll get along great with kids, cats and dogs. She is already house-trained. Rosie has been vaccinated and spayed.

Here's what Rosie's friends at Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue think of her:

Rosie is in search of a new home due to continually climbing a five-foot fence and escaping from her yard. She is a sweet and loving girl and loves to play with other dogs. We recommend obedience training to help you create a special bond with you and your new friend, and so you have a well-behaved canine. Rosie knows basic commands: sit, down, stay, wait and is crate-trained. Great Pyrenees are willing to learn but are not as eager to comply with commands as much as other breeds.

Polly, Great Pyrenees

Polly is a sweet female Great Pyrenees dog staying at Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue.

Polly is a social butterfly — she'll get along great with other dogs, cats and children. She's already spayed, and she has had all her shots. Polly is already house-trained. She is a special needs pet, so please inquire about her specific care requirements.

Here's what Polly's friends at Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue think of her:

Polly was found running as a stray four times before her owner agreed to surrender her so she didn't get hit by a vehicle. We estimate that she was born in January of 2019. Polly is a very loving girl. She likes to give hugs! Polly had a slight limp when she came into rescue, and, after having it checked out by an orthopedic surgeon, it was determined that occasional use of anti-inflammatories and steroid injections a few times a year would be most helpful to her. She does not appear to be in pain, and it does not limit her mobility or willingness to play and run. However, Polly will not able to take long walks or hikes; instead, exercise of less than a mile-long walk is recommended as long as it does not cause limping.

Jigglypuff, poodle mix

Jigglypuff is a winsome female poodle mix being cared for at Heaven After Hell Rescue.

Jigglypuff will do best with an owner who has time to bond with her. She will need a home free of other dogs. Jigglypuff does do well with children. Her vaccinations are already up to date, and she is spayed.

More about Jigglypuff:

Jigglypuff is roughly six years old and is, unfortunately, losing his vision. That doesn’t stop her, though! We have had so many applications to adopt Jigglypuff, but she needs a specific home. Here are her requirements: no other animals, someone willing to work on potty training, no apartments or condos. Jigglypuff will love you forever and is a snuggle queen, but she wants what she wants!

Basie, Labrador retriever and German shepherd mix

Basie is a male Labrador retriever and German shepherd mix staying at Waldo's Muttley Crew.

Basie is a social animal, and he gets along well with other dogs. His vaccinations are up to date, and he's neutered.

Notes from Basie's caretakers:

Basie is a charmer! He will sweep you off your feet for sure. Basie is a ray of sunshine on even the gloomiest day; he always has a smile on his face. He truly loves everybody and everything. Basie enjoys playing with his dog friends, but hanging out with people is his biggest love! If you start rubbing his ears and massaging his neck, he will literally melt into your arms. Even though Basie weighs 70 pounds, he would really prefer to be a lap dog. At the very least, he’d like to snuggle on the sofa and watch movies; add some popcorn and Basie would be in heaven.

Noelle, Great Pyrenees

Noelle is a darling female Great Pyrenees dog currently residing at Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue.

Noelle is eager to make friends, and she's happy to keep company with other dogs. She is already spayed, and she has had all her shots.

Noelle's current caretakers say:

Noelle was found as a stray and taken to an animal shelter. We estimate that she was born in the summer of 2018. Noelle loves to play with other dogs, but she is unproven with cats. She plays a little rough, so a home with older children would be recommended.
