7 delightful doggies to adopt now in IndianapolisPhotos: Petfinder

Interested in adopting a pet — or just taking a peek at some cuddly canines up for adoption? There are dozens of great dogs up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Indianapolis.

Animal shelters and pet rescue groups work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of dogs currently available for adoption.

(Details like pet availability, training, vaccinations and other features are based on data provided by Petfinder and may be subject to change; contact the shelter for the latest information.)

Duke, Labrador retriever

Duke is a darling male Labrador retriever in the care of Love of Labs.

No need to worry: Duke is already house-trained. He is neutered and vaccinated, too.

Duke's current caretakers say:

Duke is one-year-old with white patches on his toes and chest and the most beautiful eyes. While he is a big boy, weighing in at a lofty 75 pounds, he could still stand to gain a few more pounds. Duke's future home should include a fenced-in yard so he can run off some of his energy. He would love to have a furry brother or sister to hang out with in his new home, just like he does now at his foster home.

Nikki, chihuahua and dachshund mix

Nikki is a winsome female chihuahua and dachshund mix in the care of Waldo's Muttley Crew.

Nikki is spayed, and she has had all her shots.

Nikki's current caretakers say:

Nikki is one-year-old and weights about seven pounds. She is a spitfire with lots of energy who gives the best kisses.

Tesla, Great Pyrenees and pointer mix

Tesla is a sweet female Great Pyrenees and pointer mix currently housed at Waldo's Muttley Crew.

Tesla gets along well with other dogs, and she's already spayed and vaccinated.

Tesla's current caretakers say:

Tesla is a one-year-old who is as pretty as she is athletic. She loves to play with all her doggy pals and is fabulous with all of them, big and small. Tesla didn't come into rescue until she was 7-8 months old; we aren't sure what happened to her prior to this point, but she is timid with people, especially men. Tesla will need a quiet home with gentle people who will help her gain trust and confidence. She definitely would benefit from having an active, outgoing dog in her new home who will show her that new situations and strangers are safe.

Jethro, beagle

Jethro is a sweet male beagle dog currently housed at Waldo's Muttley Crew.

Jethro will get along great with other dogs, and he has been vaccinated and neutered.

Jethro's current caretakers say:

Jethro is between five and six years old and is as snuggly as he looks. Would you look at that face? You can't help but want to scrunch up all those folds and wrinkles. Jethro doesn't mind; he loves the attention!

Jack, beagle and Jack Russell terrier mix

Jack is a handsome male beagle and Jack Russell terrier mix currently housed at Waldo's Muttley Crew.

Jack gets along well with other dogs. He is neutered, and he has had all his shots.

Jack's current caretakers say:

Jack is seven years old and came to Waldo's as an owner surrender with his sister, Gigi. He loves to explore and be in the center of it all. Jack's ideal home would be a family that would include him in many of their activities. He does well with kids and other dogs, but cats are not recommended.

GiGi, beagle and Jack Russell terrier mix

GiGi is a lovable female beagle and Jack Russell terrier mix staying at Waldo's Muttley Crew.

GiGi is happy to keep company with other dogs, and she has been vaccinated and spayed.

From GiGi's current caretaker:

GiGi is seven years old and came to Waldo's as an owner surrender with her brother, Jack. She is most at home on your lap getting cuddles. GiGi loves to be the center of your world and have all your affection for herself. She is good with kids and other dogs, but cats are not recommended. GiGi has plenty of spunk, and her drive to please is strong.

Bree, boxer mix

Bree is a female boxer mix currently housed at The PAWSitivity Project, Inc.

Bree is already spayed and vaccinated.

From Bree's current caretakers:

Bree, aka Breezy Boop, is a bit of a hot mess, but you would be too if you spent time running around as a stray on the streets of Indianapolis, so cut an old gal a break. Some days she doesn’t feel the best, but most days she does, and she lets you know how happy she is to see you by dancing around or jumping up to give you a hug. She is the longest resident of the rescue, having been here since September of 2018. She would love to live out her golden years in a comfy, safe and loving home.
