The Bay Area's shelter-in-place order has brought countless events usually held as in-person gatherings online. We're aiming to support local businesses in San Francisco and Oakland by highlighting five of these events each day.

Here's your San Francisco online event calendar for Friday, July 24. Get dinner delivered by a drag performer, tune in to a live Harry Potter reading or watch a three-time Grammy-winning vocalist perform.

Cecile McLorin Salvant: Live at SFJAZZ

Kick-off Friday night with a livestreamed recording of the opening night performance from SFJAZZ's 2018-2019. The concert features three-time Grammy-winning vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant, accompanied by virtuoso pianist Sullivan Fortner. Salvant was scheduled to play SFJAZZ in March with her new song cycle "Ogresse," but her concert was the first to be canceled after the pandemic hit.

Meals on Heels: Drag, Drinks, and Dinner Delivery

SoMa drag bar Oasis is taking an original approach to takeout: meals and drinks delivered to your door by a drag performer, complete with a socially distant lip-sync performance right in front of your house. Drag queen Heklina will drop off dishes like watermelon and heirloom tomato salad, grilled shrimp skewers and devil's food chocolate cake, with the option to add a drink like white wine sangria or sweet tea.

Manny's Virtual Watch Party: The Central Park Five

Join Mission-based community space Manny's for a watch party centered on Ken Burns' new documentary "The Central Park Five." The film explores the 1989 case of five Black and Latino teenagers from Harlem who were wrongfully convicted of raping a woman, spending anywhere from six to 13 years in prison before a serial rapist confessed to the crime.

Harry Potter Story Time with D10 Supervisor Shamann Walton

During shelter-in-place, the Bayview Opera House has hosted weekly chapter-by-chapter readings of "Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone," featuring local actors and musicians. Now, it's time for the 17th and final chapter, which will be read by a special guest: District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton, who represents the Bayview.

Drag and Spirituality
