A 21-year-old man has died after a shooting yesterday afternoon at Fourth and Mission streets, near the Metreon mall.

The shooting occurred around 3:20 p.m., according to police. Reports on Citizen say that after allegedly shooting the victim, the suspect, 23-year-old Jose Alvarez, fled south into the city-owned parking garage on Mission between Fourth and Fifth streets. 

The block was shut down and the parking garage was evacuated. Officers thoroughly searched the building for the suspect, eventually taking him into custody around 6 p.m. 

A police spokesperson said the victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died of his injuries.

Alvarez was booked into the SF County Jail on charges of felony murder, possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and probation hold.
