The Bay Area's shelter-in-place order has brought countless events usually held as in-person gatherings online. We're aiming to support local businesses in San Francisco and Oakland by highlighting five of these events each day.

Here's your San Francisco online event calendar for Friday, August 7. Join a community social hour, check out contemporary art pieces by over 30 emerging artists or listen to a musical tribute to Depeche Mode.

Coronavirus & Seniors with Dr. Chodos

At noon, join a conference call with Anna Chodos, assistant professor of medicine at the Department of Geriatrics, UCSF. Chodos will talk about the COVID-19 pandemic, its history, impact, and trends, and talk about the current status of the pandemic.

Participants may be able to ask questions, time permitting.

The conference call is hosted by Senior Power, a community-based social program that aims to empower seniors to care for their physical, mental & emotional health.

Teen Science Night 2020

Join the California Academy of Sciences for Teen Science Night. This year, the event goes online with live science and interactive programs about art, science, and environmental justice designed for, and hosted by, teens.

When: Friday, August 7, 5 p.m.

How to join: Via Eventbrite. The event is for teens 13 to 18 years old.

First Fridays: Community Social Hour

COVID-19 is still around, but so are the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Pull up a chair, grab your favorite drink, and join via Zoom for a no shame, no guilt community social hour and check-in.

Participants can expect a sacred space where they can speak and be heard from the heart.

Through the Looking-Glass | Virtual Reception

Tune in as Mission-based art gallery Voss Gallery presents a glimpse at the reception for its newest exhibition "Through the Looking-Glass," an invitational group exhibition featuring new contemporary work by over 30 emerging artists reflecting on current events.

When: Friday, August 7, 7 p.m.

Strangelove: Tribute to Depeche Mode

Then, join SoMa's Cat Club for its 16th annual tribute to Depeche Mode. Tomas Diablo, founder of monthly event Strangelove, will spin a continuous set featuring lots of Depeche Mode, plus synth, EBM, and industrial music.

"Expect to hear artists like Depeche Mode, Depeche Mode, and yet more Depeche Mode," organizers said, but there will also be some tunes from Depeche Mode-inspired artists like De/Vision, Covenant, Seabound, and Camouflage.
