The Bay Area's shelter-in-place order has brought countless events usually held as in-person gatherings online. We're aiming to support local businesses in San Francisco and Oakland by highlighting five of these events each day.

Here's your San Francisco online event calendar for Monday, August 24. Take a tour of SF's outdoor public art, join a belly dance class or attend a reading from a supernatural noir novel.

Art Viewing Adventures: Beyond the Museum Walls

Though museums may be closed, San Francisco is full of public art that can be viewed beyond their walls — including many significant works by world-famous artists. Join museum guides Rodney Paul and Anna Ewins to discuss works on display in SoMa, complete with a map for pedestrians who want to explore them on their own.

Richard Kadrey: 'Ballistic Kiss' with Christopher Moore

Join this virtual event with New York Times bestselling author Richard Kadrey to celebrate "Ballistic Kiss," the latest and penultimate volume in his Sandman Slim series of supernatural noir novels. He'll be in conversation with author Christopher Moore ("Lamb," "Shakespeare For Squirrels").

Egyptian Style Belly Dance with Monica Berini

Looking for a way to get moving while gyms are closed and dance classes are discontinued? Join performer and instructor Monica Berini, of Alonzo King LINES Ballet, for an Egyptian-style belly dance class at home. The class will feature a warm-up, instruction on technique, and a group dance to a song.

Castanets For Sevillanas

In this class for all levels, Carola Zertuche of the Mission's Theatre Flamenco will teach students how to incorporate castanets — small percussion instruments held in the fingers — into the larger context of sevillanas, a traditional folk dance that hails from Spain's Seville region.

Tucker Peck: Bay Area Pragmatic Dharma Sangha

Amid the stress of the pandemic and the news, a break for meditation can help. Join this weekly meetup focusing on diverse meditation techniques, hosted by clinical psychologist and longtime dharma instructor Tucker Peck. The class starts with a 30 to 40-minute sit, followed by small-group discussions to get to know other participants and a Q&A with Peck.
