Boasting 100 seats outside on two sidewalks, a much anticipated new tapas bar is finally debuting in North Beach following several months of introducing itself to the 'hood via a takeout window.

Red Window (500 Columbus Avenue) is opening for outdoor dinner service on Friday, March 26, with an array of tapas and a Spanish-inspired, low-ABV cocktail menu. The restaurant replaces the former Caffé DeLucchi in the flatiron corner space at the corner of Columbus and Stockton near Green — a block south of Washington Square. Hoodline broke the news of the restaurant's early preparations back in October, with the first order of business being the opening of Little Red Window, a takeout business that's been slinging empanadas, tapas, canned cocktails, and local beer and wine since New Year's Day.

Now a more complete opening is happening this week, although with so many seats outside, the owners aren't yet opening the interior dining room — even though they're expected to be allowed to at 50% capacity as of later this week, when SF enters the "Orange" tier.

As the Chronicle reports, Red Window is a collaboration of Tony’s Pizza Napoletana bar director Elmer Mejicanos and Causwells chef Adam Rosenblum, with Rosenblum creating a menu of small and sharable plates, as well as larger items. The full menu isn't yet online, but Rosenblum gives a few examples of what to expect, including his own spin on the Spanish tortilla inspired by an excellent version he had while on a pre-pandemic research trip to San Sebastian, in Spain. He also mentions pintxos like ham croquettes and tuna conserva crostini, and dishes including a chopped salad with braised leeks, patatas bravas, and a dish of squid, shrimp, and mussels with brothy rice.

On the cocktail side, Mejicanos has been playing around with Sherry, and he says it took several months to land on the perfect recipe for a Sherry Cobbler. The restaurant does not have a full liquor license, so low-ABV aperitivos will be the name of the game.

Go check the place out starting Friday, and look on the Red Window website for reservations to go live on Wednesday.
