Here 4 U, a happening described as an ode to chosen families and the inherent strength of the LGBTQI+ community, will feature performances by local drag queen favorites Nicki Jizz, Dulce de Leche, and Yves Saint Croissant that will pedestal queer creativity.

With San Francisco fully reopening (and our norma lives slowly returning to the forefront), SOMArts (934 Brannan St.) will host its first in-person event next week. Pushed as a pre-Pride celebration, HERE 4 U is set to pay homage to the chosen families that have “kept queer communities going for generations.”

“HERE 4 U is inspired by the chosen families that have kept queer communities going for generations,” says Tara Marsden, SOMArts Development Initiatives Manager, in a press release. The cultural center also notes that after last year’s historic social justice marches and protests — not to mention the social activism organized around voting rights and access to healthcare — the event serves as a reminder of how our queer chosen families can help us navigate even the most tumultuous times.

“Even in the darkest of times, we’ve always found ways to celebrate queer joy and HERE 4 U upholds that legacy of community care,” Marsden adds.

The event will feature sounds by queer DJ Chuck Gunn, who will be moving guests through his stripped-back selection of house music; the trio of aforementioned drag queens are set to round out the event.

SOMArts has aligned with San Francisco’s COVID-19 social-distancing rules. Tickets ($20) for the seated event, which will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 23 in the SOMArts garden, are available at somarts.org/event/here4u; those wanting to livestream the event from their home can do so after paying a $10 access fee.
