SF's music venues are finally popping back alive, and the beloved Divisadero spot The Independent (628 Divisadero) makes its resurrection official on Friday, July 9 with a show by Bay Area soul, psych-rock, and R&B band Con Brio

The venue announced their grand reopening and the Con Brio show via Instagram, noting that Secret Sidewalk Music will be the opening act. Doors are at 8:30 p.m., and the show is currently sold out online — but $30 tickets will apparently be available at the door.

The Independent is instituting COVID protocols as follows: Everyone attending is going to be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test less than 72 hours old. They say they are requiring everyone to download the Health Pass by CLEAR app and show a green (vaccinated) pass or an amber (negative test) to gain entry — and they encourage everyone to set up their Health Pass account before arriving. This could, clearly, create some delays for getting into the venue.

Con Brio, tomorrow's headliner, is fronted by charismatic singer Ziek McCarter, who, according to KQED, brings “the dance moves, splits and all, of James Brown." Consequence of Sound has raved that Con Brio "comes across like a party punk version of Sly and the Family Stone."

On Saturday, The Independent will welcome in its second event, The Emo Night Tour, featuring a night of emo DJs spinning sad stuff — and it's also sold out online, but $20 tickets may be available at the door.
