Castro home decor shop Kenneth Wingard (2319 Market St.) has announced it will be closing after 16 years in the neighborhood.

Opened in 2006, the boutique is owned by designer Kenneth Wingard. According to Wingard, the shop's last day will be around April 17.

Along with owning the shop, Wingard is the lead on-camera designer for the Oprah Winfrey Network show Home Made Simple, and the Hallmark Channel show Home & Family.

Prior to opening the Market Street shop, Wingard briefly had a boutique in the Marina that opened in 2003. After studying architecture at Princeton University, Wingard moved into the world of accessories, working initially for Pottery Barn before launching his own product line in 1997, followed by retail shops in SF and in Los Angeles.

"I’ve loved having a storefront in San Francisco for the past 20 years and being part of my beloved neighborhood," said Wingard.

"However, my television shows, which film in Los Angeles, are taking more and more of my time," added Wingard. Wingard also shared that much of his time has also been dedicated to raising his three young children.

"With my lease coming up, it seemed like the perfect time to shorten the list of things I needed to do," said Wingard.

Customers can currently take advantage of a storewide 30% discount.

The closure of Kenneth Wingard comes just a month after longtime Castro retailer Levi's Store (525 Castro St.) departed the neighborhood.

Ground floor retail vacancies continue to plague the Castro, and the 2300 block of Market Street between Castro and Noe alone has 7 vacancies; spaces formerly occupied by Weaver's Coffee & Tea (2301 Market), IXIA (2331 Market), Worn Out West (2354 Market), Coldwell Banker (2355 Market), Art Attack (2358 Market), Bisou (2367 Market), and Pottery Barn (2390 Market) all remain vacant.
