San Francisco's retail scene continues to struggle as the Old Navy flagship store on Market Street at Fourth announces its closure on July 1. While the company seeks new locations downtown, this move further highlights the ongoing difficulties for retailers on Market Street, amidst chaos and crime. Gap Inc., which owns Old Navy, has also experienced a series of closures, including the early pandemic closure of its flagship store in August 2020. With a growing number of large retail stores closing both in San Francisco and other major cities, it seems the shift towards online shopping remains a driving force in these decisions.
