Cliffhanger in Sonoma: Video of Helicopter Crew Rescuing Hiker Stuck on Precarious Perch

A tense rescue unfolded in Jenner, California, as a Sonoma County Sheriff's helicopter crew successfully rescued a stranded hiker from a steep cliff's edge. According to CBS News, the hiker climbed the precarious cliffside but soon realized they couldn't make a safe descent and called for help.

The Sonoma Sheriff's Office received the distress call and immediately dispatched its "Henry-1" helicopter to the scene. Upon locating the stranded climber, the crew determined that utilizing a 100-foot long line and a "horse collar" rescue device would be the safest and most efficient method for the rescue operation, as reported on their Facebook page.

A paramedic from the helicopter crew attached themselves to the long line and successfully performed the daring rescue. The hiker was brought to a nearby beach, where fire and medical personnel were waiting to provide assistance. The entire cliffside rescue operation was captured on video, showing the paramedic lowering themselves down to the stranded hiker before wrapping a harness around them and signaling to the helicopter to hoist them both to safety.
