James Lee Ramsey, the man convicted of attacking Oakland Chinatown leader Carl Chan in 2022, has been arrested again for brutally assaulting an 88-year-old Asian woman in San Francisco, according to a tweet by journalist Henry Lee KTVU. The suspect has been charged by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.

The victim, an elderly Chinese woman, was violently kicked while carrying a bag of avocados in San Francisco's Union Square area on July 21, leaving her critically injured with massive internal bleeding, as reported by Wind Newspaper. Good Samaritans at the scene managed to subdue Ramsey until the arrival of police officers.

This incident follows other recent violent attacks against Asian elders in San Francisco, fueling concerns about the city becoming a hub for anti-Asian hate crimes. Just this month, two other elderly Chinese women were attacked—an 86-year-old suffered a broken hip and a 63-year-old was pushed to death.

Residents of senior housing facilities in San Francisco's Tenderloin district have been left frightened and worried about their safety.

Last year, Ramsey was convicted of attacking Oakland Chinatown leader Carl Chan without provocation and was sentenced to a three-year non-prison term, as KTVU's Henry Lee reported. He now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, battery, elder abuse, and resisting arrest for the latest incident in San Francisco.
