In an unprecedented move, several Bay Area police officers have been caught up in scandal, with many being placed on suspension by California's Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission as investigations continue. The officers involved come from various jurisdictions, including the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), the Oakland Police Department (OPD), and the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, each facing charges related to corruption and fraud.
According to a tweet by Henry Lee KTVU, SFPD Officer Adam Eatia is currently suspended after being accused by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office of insurance fraud. Eatia has also been charged by the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office with theft by false pretenses, allegedly claiming that he owned a South San Francisco daycare named "Adam's Childcare" and receiving a $20,000 PPP loan from the Small Business Administration (SBA).

Meanwhile, in Oakland, longtime homicide investigator Phong Tran is facing his own legal issues. He has been charged by the Alameda County District Attorney with perjury under oath, threatening a witness, subornation of perjury (encouraging someone to commit perjury), bribery, and attempted bribery of a witness. Tran is currently awaiting trial while suspended by the POST Commission.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office is not immune to the wave of corruption charges, with KTVU reporting that deputies Sheri Baughman and Amanda Bracamontes have been suspended after being charged by the Alameda County District Attorney with falsifying records related to visual checks of an inmate who hung herself at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. The POST Commission has also placed these deputies on suspension while the investigations continue.
