This morning, a Kensington woman faced a situation many expectant mothers fear: giving birth in a vehicle. As reported by ABC 10News, the woman was forced to stop her Toyota SUV on El Cajon Boulevard just after 4 a.m., unable to reach the hospital in time for delivery.
San Diego Police said that the woman, whose age was not disclosed, had been driving herself to the hospital when the need to pull over became apparent. Arriving on the scene, officers discovered that she had given birth to a baby boy inside the SUV, all without the assistance of medical professionals.
Paramedics were quickly called to 42nd Street and El Cajon Boulevard, where the newborn and his mother awaited assistance. Thankfully, both mother and child were reported to be awake and alert as they were transported to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest, suggesting that the roadside delivery had not led to any immediate complications. While there is limited information on the woman's condition post-delivery, the fact that she was able to remain awake and responsive after such a harrowing experience speaks to her incredible strength and determination.
