While the investigation is still ongoing, early indications suggest that the shooting may have been unintentional, with the 14-year-old victim not specifically targeted as per NBC Boston's report. The young perpetrator now faces a slew of charges, including assault and battery with a firearm, firing a gun within 500 feet of a building, carrying a gun and carrying a loaded gun without a license to carry, and receiving stolen property.
In light of the recent incident, this is not the first time the city has had to grapple with gun violence involving young individuals. In 2022, a 17-year-old male from Fall River was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Providence, Rhode Island
Furthermore, a 2012 Taunton Gazette article reported another case in the neighboring city of Taunton, where a young man was shot in the neck after a confusing series of events and unclear stories from the victim and his friends.
