Humane Society of San Diego Announces Free Pet Adoption Event This SaturdaySan Diego Humane Society

In the past, we've seen numerous heartwarming stories of pet adoption events, providing new homes for so many of the animals that require our love and care. This year, a similar event is about to take place in San Diego, as the city's Humane Society opens its doors to the community for a free pet adoption event. With record-breaking numbers of animals in their care, the San Diego Humane Society aims to provide better lives for thousands of pets this Saturday.

People who have space in their heart and home for a new family member can visit any of the San Diego Humane Society’s campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, and San Diego from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday. Among the pets available for adoption are 359 dogs, 17 puppies, 174 cats, 248 kittens, and a variety of other species waiting for a second chance at love with a new family.

This one-day adoption special is part of NBC Universal and Telemundo’s Clear the Shelters Month. As announced on San Diego Humane Society's Facebook page, all adoption fees will be waived on Saturday, August 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. across the four campuses. This incredible opportunity aims to alleviate the burden experienced by the shelter, which has encountered an unusually tough year with record-high numbers of animals in their care.

On July 7, the San Diego Humane Society set a record with 2,584 animals in care. As reported by Chula Vista Today, the organization's president and CEO, Dr. Gary Weitzman, remarked on the abnormality of the year, stating, "Typically, summer is our busy time, but we were already breaking records in March with dogs in care." Moreover, the total number of animals in care stands at 2,325 as of the time of writing.

Each pet has been properly assessed and cared for, and they will come microchipped, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered where applicable. Furthermore, the San Diego Humane Society guarantees adoption, with training advice, pet supplies, and educational information provided to ensure these newly united families enjoy a fulfilling life together.

For those interested in this unique event, it is recommended to check the organization's website at sdhumane.org/adopt if they have a specific animal in mind, in order to determine the most suitable campus to visit.
