The first day of Outside Lands 2023 was a raucous affair, with attendees breaking the floor in the SOMA Tent thanks to their lively dancing. Kendrick Lamar put on a powerful, pyrotechnic-enhanced headline set while Janelle Monae amped up the energy with a semi-NSFW performance alongside go-go dancers. The dance-centric day featured DJ sets from the likes of Zedd and DJ Diesel (a.k.a. Shaquille O'Neal), but the SOMA tent had to be shut down before 5 p.m. due to safety concerns. Meanwhile, the Wine Lands area offered a more serene atmosphere for festival-goers.
