Early Friday morning, a series of motor vehicle break-ins occurred in two separate streets, Worthern Place and Evergreen Road. Tewksbury Police Chief Ryan Columbus has since publicly pleaded for the community's assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for these crimes.
According to a post by the Tewksbury Police Department on Facebook, in at least one instance, a suspect was caught on a Ring surveillance camera breaking into a vehicle at 3:19 a.m. The suspect wore a distinctive jacket, which investigators have used to connect him to another incident. This later act relates to the theft of a credit card from one of the vehicles at the scene of these crimes. The same card was later used at a liquor store in Lowell, Massachusetts, at 8:35 a.m.
Investigators believe that the suspect who used the stolen credit card and the person captured on the Ring camera footage are one and the same, due to the matching distinctive jackets. Desperate to bring the suspect to swiftly justice, Tewksbury Police have released the surveillance footage and asked the public for aid in identifying the individual captured in it.
The residents of Tewksbury now find themselves in a precarious position, searching for a sense of safety that may not easily return. With the possibility of further crimes looming large, community members are urged to share any information relating to the suspect in these break-ins.
