Yesterday evening, on Interstate 5, just north of State Route 163, a pedestrian was struck and killed while walking along the freeway. The unknown man's ill-fated walk ended in tragedy as he was hit by a Nissan Altima, dying instantly at the scene, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The driver of the Nissan Altima, a 26-year-old woman, remained at the site of the accident, cooperating with the investigation conducted by California Highway Patrol (CHP). The freeway's left two southbound lanes were closed for close to an hour and a half during the investigation process. As of this writing, the pedestrian's identity remains undisclosed to the public.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office will later determine if the pedestrian had been under the influence, according to Fox5 San Diego.
