On September 2nd, two individuals were wounded during a shooting on westbound I-580 near Seminary Drive. Later that night, another shooting took place on the northbound I-880 near 66th Avenue, injuring one individual as per Hoodline news.
According to a Facebook post by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Oakland Area office, the first call came in around 4:03 p.m. Officers responded to the scene and found an abandoned vehicle riddled with bullet holes. They were later informed that two individuals had walked into a local hospital with gunshot wounds, claiming they sustained them while traveling westbound on I-580. Both victims were listed in stable condition. As the investigation unfolded, a vehicle on the eastbound side of the freeway was found to have been struck by a stray bullet from the same shooting, though, fortunately, no one in that vehicle was injured.
CHP spokesman Andrew Barclay mentioned that both westbound lanes of I-580 were closed for around 40 minutes at the Edwards Avenue on-ramp so that officers could process the crime scene. Additionally, the far-right lane remained closed for another 50 minutes as the victim's vehicle was further examined for evidence.
The second shooting occurred later that same day at approximately 11:30 p.m. on northbound I-880 near 66th Avenue. The CHP's Oakland Area office explained how the victim was traveling northbound when the suspect's vehicle approached from the left side and fired multiple rounds. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while a 13-year-old passenger in the victim's car remained unharmed. Following the shooting, the victim pulled over to the right shoulder and called for help.
As a result of this second incident, all lanes of northbound I-880 were closed at the 66th Avenue on-ramp for approximately one hour to allow officers to process the crime scene.
Investigators from the CHP are currently exploring possible motives for the shootings and diligently working to track down both suspects and the vehicles reportedly involved. They have reached out to the community, seeking any information that may help in solving these violent episodes. The CHP Investigations Tipline can be reached at (707) 917-4491.
