Last Saturday, an incident unfolded at the Westlake Shopping Center in Daly City, where a suspect attempted to steal merchandise from the Burlington Coat Factory. The situation escalated when the suspect pepper-sprayed a loss prevention employee before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, Daly City Police Department was successful in identifying and apprehending the suspect.
According to the Daly City Police Department, at approximately 9:22 p.m., officers were dispatched on a report of a suspicious subject. The store manager informed the officers that the suspect had concealed around $40 worth of merchandise and failed to pay for it after being asked to leave. A loss prevention employee was pepper-sprayed and the suspect fled after being alerted by security guards.
While police were on scene, they received information about a subject yelling in the nearby Nick the Greek's bathroom, matching the description of the suspect. Officers contacted the subject and were able to secure a positive identification from the Burlington Coat Factory manager. The suspect, a 39-year-old San Francisco resident, was arrested and booked into jail for robbery, providing false identification to an officer, and an outstanding warrant.
