Earlier today, Pittsfield District Court Judge Mark Pasquariello ruled that the pension forfeiture of retired Massachusetts State Police Lieutenant John Giulino, convicted in the prominent overtime scandal, was "grossly disproportionate to the gravity of the crimes" according to NBC Boston.

According to Boston Globe, in 2019, Giulino had pleaded guilty to making a false claim to a public employer, larceny, and procurement fraud. He was given two years of probation and was accused of stealing over $29,000 in unearned overtime in 2015 and 2016.

As noted by NBC Boston, state law permits the State Retirement Board to forfeit the pension of any state employee convicted of a felony related to their job, which the Board did in Giulino's case.

Giulino lost his $1.06 million pension as a result of the State Retirement Board's order before the recent ruling by Judge Pasquariello, according to Boston Globe.
