Worcester Police Department (WPD) officers recently encountered an unusual scene last week, at approximately 2:51 AM, when they found a sleeping suspect in a stolen vehicle.
According to the WPD report, 45-year-old Hector Gonzalez, the suspect found slumbering in the driver's seat, was arrested and charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle (2nd or subsequent) and Use of a Motor Vehicle without Authority (2nd or subsequent).
This incident began with Worcester Police responding to a report of a stolen vehicle on Main St, where officers observed surveillance footage of a person checking various door handles before entering a white Mercedes and driving away.
After issuing a be on the lookout (BOLO) alert for the vehicle, an officer spotted it parked on Madison St with music playing. The WPD officers proceeded to arrest the sleeping Gonzalez after backup arrived at the scene.
