San Francisco police advised people to avoid the area around Essex and Folsom streets due to an ongoing standoff with a knife-wielding suspect earlier in the afternoon.

The situation began when officers responded to a call and found an individual with a knife-inflicted injury, which was deemed non-life threatening.

The suspect is now in a nearby residence and refusing to exit, prompting the deployment of specialized SFPD units such as the Hostage/Crisis Negotiation team and Tactical Team. The standoff remains ongoing.
