In Springfield, Massachusetts, as a joint operation by state, federal, and local law enforcement partners arrested two men and confiscated several weapons and a large quantity of illegal drugs earlier this week. This operation revealed the extensive network of narcotics trafficking between Massachusetts and Vermont.
According to a Massachusetts State Police news release, the two arrested individuals are named Micah Varela and Roberto Santa, both 36 years old and residents of Springfield. The news release detailed a long list of charges against them, ranging from multiple counts of drug trafficking and possession of illegal firearms to a violation of a firearm surrender order.
The authorities succeeded in apprehending Varela and Santa without incident during the execution of a search warrant. Upon their arrest, officers discovered a large quantity of drugs, including cocaine, heroin/fentanyl, xylazine, and methamphetamine as well as seven firearms, one of which was a rifle with an attached bayonet.
