A Groveland woman and a child escaped grave harm when they were struck by a car near Dr. Elmer S. Bagnall Elementary School on Monday morning. According to Boston.com, the 67-year-old woman and 7-year-old child sustained minor injuries after being hit by the vehicle while crossing the street around 8:30 a.m.
Emergency responders soon arrived on the scene to evaluate their condition. Per Boston25 News, it is believed that the victims' injuries are minor. Consequently, they were taken to a nearby hospital for further assessment.
Police issued a citation to the driver, a 51-year-old man from Haverhill, for failing to slow down for pedestrians. Another WCVB report indicates that the man was cooperative with law enforcement and remained on the scene. Groveland police Chief Jeffrey Gillen lauded his cooperation amid this distressing incident.
The Groveland Police Department continues to investigate the crash in an effort to determine all relevant factors contributing to this near-tragedy.
