
As per a recent Wallethub ranking, Aurora, Illinois, now ranks 25th in the safest cities of the United States, rising from its 37th position in 2022 as reported by NBC Chicago. Wallethub's methodology assessed over 180 cities, relying on 42 safety indicators featuring home and community safety, natural-disaster risk, financial safety, vaccination rates, road quality, unemployment rates, and crime rates.
Chicago suburb Naperville, according to a MoneyGeek survey in 2023, won the title of America's safest city. The analysis took into account crime data sent to the FBI and calculated the cost of crime per capita according to Chicago Sun-Times report. It earned its place mainly due to its low "cost of crime per capita," which stood at $156 while Chicago ranked 239 out of 263 cities.
By factoring in the variety of elements affecting safety, different Illinois cities have earned notable rankings. For instance, Elgin secured 117th rank posessing a per capita crime cost of $1,135, while Aurora followed at 81st rank with a per capita crime cost of $840 as reported by Chicago Sun-Times.
