Last night, a severe accident unfolded in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood. The incident was prompted by a 21-year-old man who was reportedly speeding in a Jeep Cherokee east on 50th Street shortly before 11:45 p.m., as reported by an ABC7 article.
The driver ignored a stop sign and collided headfirst with a GMC Acadia being driven south on Racine Avenue by a 65-year-old man. CBS News further elaborates that the impact forced the Acadia into a spin, sent it airborne, then onto the top of a parked car near a residential property on South Racine Avenue.
Additionally, according to the continued reporting by CBS News, a bus sign was knocked down, and an another parked car was damaged.
The driver of the GMC Acadia walked away from the crash without harm and declined medical treatment at the scene. However, the 21-year-old driver who triggered this incident suffered bruising and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center for medical attention.
Upon investigation, police found a firearm in one of the vehicles. The 21-year-old has since been taken into custody and is awaiting charges.
