Situated on the eighth floor of a former Macy’s Men's department store, Chotto Matte SF presents an exquisite Nikkei culinary experience with sweeping city views.
Originally introduced to the world by Kurt Zdesar in London a decade ago, Chotto Matte now has several branches in places including Doha, Miami, and Toronto, as reported by SFist. The San Francisco branch, announced two years ago, presents a fine dining experience amidst the vibrant landscape of Union Square.
Guests are welcomed by a modern indoor space decorated with large plants that complement the rich Nikkei cuisine, seamlessly incorporating indoor and outdoor dining with its wraparound terrace, as reported by KTVU. Featured on the inside are an open sushi counter, a centrally positioned robata grill, and an elevated DJ booth, ensuring a lively atmosphere.
Crafting the artistry of Nikkei cuisine into their menu are Executive Chef Jordan Sclare and Head Chef Carlos Couts, who showcase a blend of Japanese and Peruvian traditions, according to Chotto Matte’s website. Signature dishes such as Chotto Branzino Ceviche, Sato Maki sushi, and Pollo den Miso reflect the balance between innovation and tradition.
Alongside their culinary offerings, Chotto Matte also introduces their Tokyo to Lima cocktail collection. The meticulously designed collection, inspired by the local landscape, is tailored to complement the restaurant's menu and includes a capsule cocktail menu tribute to San Francisco.
The Chotto Matte San Francisco rooftop restaurant and lounge further propel San Francisco's culinary scene and urban development. Rooftop venues like Charmaine's at the Proper Hotel, Kaiyo Rooftop in SoMa, and the new Rise Over Run at the Line Hotel on mid-Market have sprouted in recent years, notes an SFist article.
