The Stud is launching California's inaugural drag queen school. The Stud School of Drag will educate students on the nuanced art of drag performance in its comprehensive curriculum.
Classes held weekly by experienced drag queen professionals seeks to provide a deep dive into the history of drag, makeup application, costuming, lip-synching, and crucial marketing elements. Honey Mahogany, Chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party, is set to serve as the school's first headmistress, according to KRON4.
For those not in the know, The Stud holds significant value within the LGBTQ+ community, a sentiment echoed by The Stud Collective who, during the pandemic, found a new location for the bar in San Francisco's Leather District when closure seemed imminent. The Stud Collective's fundraising campaign states that the new site boasts double the previous bar's space, two bars, a fresh stage, and additional restrooms.
As the first collectively owned queer establishment in the nation, The Stud operates for the community's benefit rather than personal profit. Its enduring commitment to the LGBTQ+ community has incentivized the formation of the Stud School of Drag, aiming at nurturing the next generation of creative individuals within the city while contributing to an ever-changing landscape.
Ahead of the Stud's anticipated reopening in the new location, the School plans to accentuate the existing cultural landscape further. Tailored for those eager, to strive for perfection in their drag performance, The Stud School of Drag will initiate a call for enrollments post the bar's inauguration, embracing all genders, sexual orientations, and individuals, as long as they are 21 and above.
