A well-regarded San Francisco establishment, Avery Restaurant, will be serving its last dinner on November 4. Chef Rodney Wages, after bringing much excitement to the city's culinary scene, has decided to close Avery with an eye on a new venture in Edinburgh, Scotland, according to an Instagram post.
Avery has been a mainstay in the San Francisco dining scene for seven years. It gained recognition due to its innovative menu and expert pairings of food with sake. The restaurant, indeed, was awarded a Michelin star in 2021, which it retained till the time of the closure in 2023. As Chef Rodney Wages conducts Avery's last dinner services, a notable culinary era in San Francisco draws to its close.
The concept of Avery, a reflection of Chef Wages' stints at Atelier Crenn and Benu, started as an experiment named RTB Fillmore in 2018, according to the San Francisco Chronicles. The restaurant, offering a mix of three prix fixe menus, soon made waves in the culinary world. The original Avery space is now projected to be revitalized into a less formal dining experience for the holidays.
Chef Rodney Wages' decision to relocate Avery is indeed attributed to his three-month residency in Edinburgh, where he was enamored by Scotland’s local produce, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicles. The restaurant team looks forward to a welcoming environment in Scotland. This move symbolizes a new era of culinary adventures for the crew and their patrons.
