The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) and Computers 2 Kids are continuing to bridge the "digital divide" by offering low-cost computers to low-income families. On November 4, a drive-thru event in El Cajon will allow families to purchase used laptops and desktop computers starting at $100.

These refurbished computers are loaded with essential software for learning, including Windows, Microsoft Office, antivirus programs, and other educational tools. The event also offers families the chance to sign up for internet service, to fully utilize their new computers.

According to the SDCOE announcement, participants should pre-register by November 2 to secure their computers. Walk-ups will be accommodated if possible. The event will be at the East County Regional Education Center in El Cajon, accepting credit and debit cards and cash.

Since 2004, the partnership of SDCOE and Computers 2 Kids providing affordable computers, has helped numerous families. Superintendent of Schools for San Diego County, Dr. Paul Gothold, accentuates the importance of this work in giving every student an opportunity to thrive.
