Earlier today, a security guard was critically wounded in a shooting at Chatham's 79th Street Red Line station. The incident started as a dispute, which swiftly spiraled into violence, resulting in the security guard being shot in his neck as indicated by the Hoodline report.
According to Chicago Sun-Times, 20-year-old Andre Holland has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon subsequent to his apparent involvement in shooting the 22-year-old security guard. Holland and the guard firstly engaged physically dealing with an argument, prior to Holland reportedly discharging a firearm and wounding the guard at approximately 4:25 p.m. in proximity to the station. The victim was subsequently evacuated to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
The rapid response of the police led to the suspect's arrest, along with the recovery of a handgun from the vicinity of the incident according to Hoodline. The identity of the suspect has been disclosed, with charges pending, escalating the demand for clarification surrounding the unfortunate incident. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and police are, however, yet to confirm the employment status of the grievously injured security guard, leading to inquiries regarding his role and engagement in the affair.
