The American Canyon Police Department caught more than just traffic violations during a routine patrol this weekend. Michael Maurice Williams III, a 21-year-old Vallejo resident, was arrested on Saturday morning after officers discovered an unregistered and loaded AR gun in his vehicle, according to the Facebook post.
Williams was driving a black KIA with expired tags on Highway 29 when he was pulled over by ACPD at around 9 a.m. Upon being stopped, Mr. Williams consented to a vehicle search. Officers hit the jackpot when they found the firearm snug inside a backpack in the trunk of the car.
The shocking find led to the immediate arrest of Williams, who was charged with various weapons offenses. The authorities took the situation very seriously, as unregistered weapons—especially those of such caliber—pose a significant threat to public safety.
Subsequent to the arrest, Williams was booked into Napa County Department of Corrections. The discovery of the weapon is an alarming reminder of the prevalence of gun-related issues in American neighborhoods. It also raises questions about the challenges law enforcement faces in combating the ownership and distribution of illegal firearms.
