A tragic accident occurred early today in Oakland on the westbound lane of I-580 near the Lakeshore Avenue exit. An overturned vehicle resulted in at least one fatality.

CHP arriving on the scene attended to the victim, who unfortunately died as a result of "traumatic brain injuries," at 3:43 a.m., according to NBC Bay Area.

The mishap occurred during the drive at 12:36 a.m. The identity of the victim remained undisclosed at the time of reporting, according to East Bay Times

The cause remains under investigation.
