A recent San Francisco trial ended in a conviction for 34-year-old Melchor Manriquechan for domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced yesterday that the jury had returned a guilty verdict against Manriquechan, per the San Francisco District Attorney.
The assault occurred on August 28, 2022. Prompted by jealousy and suspicion, Manriquechan forcefully grabbed his ex-girlfriend, attempting to drag her towards him. The victim managed to break away, seeking refuge in her bathroom where she dialed 911. Manriquechan briefly absconded, only to return again, trespassing into the victim's bedroom before finally leaving. Tenderloin station officers arrested him shortly after in the same apartment building.
Commending the victim's courage, DA Jenkins underscored the significance this verdict holds in the fight against domestic violence. The court's ruling reinforces a strong, societal condemnation of domestic abuse and serves to motivate other victims to take action. Assistant DA Paul Samra extended gratitude to the jury for their diligence and impartiality. Currently facing a sentence of up to six months in County Jail, Manriquechan's sentencing is set for November 20.
