A flurry of snow is set to envelop the Windy City on what's shaping up to be a hectic travel day this Sunday. A low-pressure system that's sweeping in all the way from Oklahoma to Missouri bears an icy gift that's far from festive. According to NBC Chicago, snow will be our uninvited guest by daybreak, painting the town white and potentially leading to some dicey road situations.
The NBC forecast says to expect the most accumulation from sunrise through about 11 a.m., and by then, Chicagoans might be treading through one to two inches of snow. And, while Indiana's morning may start off clear, the snow won't be far behind. After, the post-snow chill will kick in with a strong gust, with wind chills plummeting into the low 20s come Monday morning.
Meanwhile, ABC 7 Chicago reports that while Saturday remains shielded by clouds, with highs teasing at the upper 30s, the rest of the week won't afford much respite from the cold grip of winter. Tuesday could see a dusting of snow again, and though the midweek offers a peek at the sun, rain showers are expected to roll back in by Friday.
As for those gusting winds following Sunday's snowfall, gusts are threatening to reach a fierce 25 miles per hour. But by Thursday, the mercury is set to creep up to a comparatively balmy 44 degrees.
