The 003rd District (Grand Crossing) in Chicago has been hit by a wave of burglaries, leading to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department (CPD). The incidents, which escalated in October and November, involved unidentified individuals forcibly kicking in doors or prying them open to steal property.
At different times and locations, these burglaries happened, amplifying the prevailing insecurity. Residents of the 6900 block of South Wabash Ave. first experienced these incidents in the early hours of October 28–29. Similarly, those on the 6900 block of South Indiana Ave. reported theft earlier this month. On the 6800 block of South Calumet Ave., the recent burglary, notably deviating from past cases, took place during the daytime on November 10.
Burglaries continue, and hence it is critical to take precautions such as ensuring proper lighting in the perimeter, promptly reporting suspicious activities, and securing doors and windows. Community vigilance, cooperation among neighbors, and timely information exchange can play a significant role in deterring these crimes. The techniques recommended in the CPD community alert can help mitigate the chance of criminal victimization.
Moreover, victims are advised not to tamper with the crime scene and to immediately report incidents to the police. If you have any information, contact the Bureau of Detectives, Area One (312) 747-8384.
