Starting today, the "Home for the Holidays" event aims to place adult dogs into loving homes by eliminating the financial barrier. In a bid to tackle the disturbing surge in the number of homeless canines, the MSPCA-Angell is throwing a lifeline to pooches and prospective pet parents alike with a fee-waived adoptathon extravaganza, as reported by Boston 25 News.
This philanthropic move comes as a response to a nationwide slowdown in dog adoptions, which has reached a nearly year-long pit and put thousands of innocent dogs at risk. “Shelters across the country are seeing a slowdown in dog adoptions, and it’s been going on for close to a year,” Mike Keiley, the MSPCA-Angell director of adoption centers and programs, revealed to WCVB. Ordinarily, adoption fees for adult dogs range from a hefty $350 to $500—a cost that's now off the table for the week-long event.
Those looking to take advantage of a steely-eyed companion can visit one of the participating shelters in Boston, Salem, Methuen, and Centerville. Each location is throwing open its doors to adopters, with visiting hours that vary by site. The adoptable dogs are begging for attention and can be identified by the stars on their online adoption profiles.
The philanthropy is fueled by a partnership with the Bissell Pet Foundation and extends from the brisk beginning of December 4 through the calm of December 10. The MSPCA encourages eager adopters to beeline to their local centers, where tails are wagging in anticipation. Interested parties can sneak a peek at available dogs by visiting the MSPCA's website for the full array of hopeful furry friends.
