Crackdown in the South Chicago district: cops on the hunt for drunk drivers. Chicago Police Department is ramping up its efforts to curb DUIs in the South Chicago area, kicking off a targeted DUI Saturation Patrol this weekend. The operation is slated for Friday, December 22, from 6:00 p.m. through to Saturday, December 23, at 2:00 a.m., according to an alert posted on the department's official website.

The initiative isn't a simple show of force; it's a strategic deployment designed to ensure that police officers are out in force, paying close attention to the behaviors of motorists for any indication of impairment behind the wheel. Speed demons, alcohol-related offenses, and seat belt misdemeanors stand little chance of slipping through the net as the unit comes equipped with speed detection tools to snag those pushing the pedal too hard. For a more efficient legal process, the Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit is also on standby, primed to speed up the DUI charge process.

The patrol, which happened the previous weekend, ended with a tally of 20 citations, though none for DUI. Lawbreakers were caught for various other violations including eight unsafe vehicle issues, five due to speeding, and a smattering of other traffic violations. The data, provided by Chicago Police's official statement, paints a clear picture: obey the law or pay the price.
