A high-speed chase gripped the streets crossing from Montgomery to Harris County, ending with a BMW wrapped around a utility pole and its two occupants trapped within the mangled metal, one clinging grimly to life. The ordeal began around the witching hour of 1 a.m., when officers, for an unspecified reason, attempted to pull over the vehicle. Police said it took them a while to extract them from their vehicle because there were electrical lines on them, the FOX San Antonio reported.
But they were eventually rescued and transported to the hospital in serious condition, as updated by officials.
This chase, however, had its origins steeped in alleged criminality, according to the KHOU reports. It violently began when a man suspected of pharmacy burglary struck a patrol car and thrust the officers into action. Spilling over into Harris County, it encompassed law enforcement laying down spike strips in a calculated move to try and halt the escape.
“He’s facing felony charge of burglary of a business. Felony evading in a motor vehicle,” HCSO Lt. Kenneth Benoit said. “Depending on if the passenger lives, we may be filing a murder charge in Harris County for a murder charge in this accident.” he told KHOU.
