In what might've been a costly mishap, an Illinois family's blunder turned into a stroke of good fortune, as they mistakenly bought a whopping $13,000 worth of Disney+ gift cards - that's right, the streaming service - when they had their sights set on an epic Disney park adventure. According to a CBS report, Andrea Coston and her family had visions of thrill rides, not chill nights, when they loaded up on gift cards purportedly for Disney theme park fun.
The error occurred as they prepped for a grand holiday vacation to Orlando with aging parents and a host of family members. In the spirit of efficient expense management, they stocked up on gift cards to cover all eventualities, from entry tickets to dining reservations. But, the grandparents who were spearheading these efforts accidentally picked the wrong cards, and the error didn't come to light until some serious coin had been spent, per ABC 7 News.
But as they say," never underestimate the power of social media." After Coston took to TikTok to share the family's plight, the video not only went viral, it caught the attention of the right people - those with the Disney magic touch. The massive mix-up, which initially seemed like a devastating blow to the family's holiday plans, was flipped on its head after Disney representatives reached out to Coston and rectified the mix-up with a swish of their proverbial magic wands.
The now-enjoying the park's family is down in Orlando, delighting in the festivities they intended to join, thanks to the seamless transition from streaming credits to theme park currency. Andrea Coston told CBS, "It all did get resolved, and we are here in Orlando," continuing with a hint of relief and perhaps a dash of newfound wisdom," As a family, this is going to be a legend that gets passed down, I'm sure."
