A late-night ride spiraled into a roadway nightmare when a 21-year-old woman, allegedly intoxicated, engaged in a violent squabble with an Uber driver before being struck by a passing car. San Antonio Police report that the altercation commenced inside the vehicle, resulting in the woman being ejected and subsequently injured on the Northwest Military Highway.
According to Express News, the driver claimed the passenger "started hitting him and slapping him" from the back seat. Reacting for his safety, the Uber driver pulled to the curb in the 8500 block and instructed the woman to depart the car. The said woman purportedly broke the windshield and a door handle in her outrage, catalyzing the driver to call 911.
Then, in what witnesses described as a state of fury, the woman stepped into the traffic while hurling curses, only to be hit by another vehicle. Fox San Antonio reported that she was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
The driver involved in the collision with the pedestrian was investigated and found not to be impaired. The Uber driver, who stopped to assist the injured woman, reported his version of events to the police, affirming that he had been assaulted. Police have now listed the hospitalized woman as a suspect in the assault against the Uber driver, as well as in the vandalism of his vehicle.
