A substitute teacher in Travis County, Texas, has sparked an investigation after bringing a gun onto the campus of Four Points Middle School, violating both federal and state laws. The teacher, who was reported to have a license to carry, has been banned from serving as a substitute within the Leander Independent School District as a result, as per a letter sent to students' families and staffers.
The incident emerged on Wednesday when students at Four Points Middle School saw the firearm and quickly reported it to the school's staff. The swift action taken by the school's administrative team, alongside the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, was designed to rigorously address and defuse the potential threat. According to CBS Austin, the teacher "will no longer be allowed to serve as a substitute for the district."
Principal Steve Crawford of Four Points Middle School has praised the students for their decisive intervention. "We want to thank the students who reported the incident to staff," mentioned a letter from Crawford. "We commend their communication and effort to ensure an expedited yet thorough investigation was conducted." The school has encouraged the community to adhere to the principle "See Something, Say Something," as per the KXAN report.
In the wake of the incident, no students were at any risk, but the school has taken the opportunity to remind the community that weapons have no place in an educational setting. "Although none of our students were ever in any danger, we will always prioritize any reports of this nature in an utmost manner," Crawford affirmed in the letter, as reported by KXAN. This event has underlined the district's commitment to the safety and security of its students, which are of paramount importance.
The school district and law enforcement continue to collaborate closely as the investigation into the incident progresses. No further information regarding potential legal action against the substitute teacher had been disclosed at the time of reporting. Parents and community members with concerns have been advised to contact the school's office directly.
